Dosage of Tadalafil

When using tadalafil for erectile dysfunction, the recommended starting dosage will often be 10 mg one hour prior to sexual activity. This medication can also be taken in smaller amounts on a daily basis, depending on what your healthcare provider recommends. The maximum recommended dosage is tadalafil 20 mg. To treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate, the recommended starting dose is 5 mg a day.

Dosage of Tadalafil: An Introduction

The dosage of tadalafil (Cialis ® ) your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on a number of factors, such as:

  • The condition being treated
  • Other medical conditions you may have
  • Other medications you may be currently taking.

As always, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

(Please note that this article refers specifically to Cialis, the original tadalafil product that is approved for treating erectile dysfunction. For information about dosing with the tadalafil product used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension. please see Adcirca Dosage .)

Tadalafil Dosing for Erectile Dysfunction

The recommended starting dosage of tadalafil for treating erectile dysfunction is tadalafil 10 mg one hour prior to sexual activity. However, you may take tadalafil anywhere from 1 hour to 36 hours before sexual activity. Depending on the effectiveness of the medication (and whether you experience any side effects), your healthcare provider may increase or decrease your tadalafil dosage. The maximum tadalafil dosage is tadalafil 20 mg.

Alternatively, tadalafil can be taken on a daily basis (every single day, whether you plan sexual activity or not). For this use, the recommended dose is tadalafil 2.5 mg once daily, at the same time each day (it does not matter when you plan to have sexual activity if you take tadalafil this way). If the 2.5 mg daily dosage does not seem to be working well enough, your healthcare provider may increase the dose to tadalafil 5 mg every day.

Lower dosages may be recommended for men with kidney or liver problems.
